National Parking Platform to be delivered by sector-led consortium, ensuring continued rollout and driver choice

Parking Goes National with Industry-Led Rollout

The National Parking Platform (NPP) will continue its national rollout under a new sector-led delivery model, with the British Parking Association (BPA) leading a consortium of industry partners to operate and scale the platform across the UK.

Originally developed by the Department for Transport (DfT), the NPP has been designed as a national digital platform that enables drivers to pay for parking through their preferred app, across participating locations. By removing the need to download multiple applications, the platform is simplifying the parking experience while supporting greater choice and consistency.

Following the conclusion of government-funded pilot activity in March, the transition to a sector-led model marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the NPP. The new consortium, led by the BPA, brings together key service providers including JustPark, PayByPhone, and RingGo, ensuring the continued development and operation of the platform without additional cost to the taxpayer.

Announced at Parkex, the transition reflects strong collaboration between government and industry to deliver a long-term, sustainable solution for digital parking.

The NPP is already live across multiple local authorities and is processing over half a million parking transactions each month. With a growing number of councils joining the platform, the next phase of delivery will focus on accelerating onboarding and expanding national coverage.

A spokesperson for the National Parking Platform said:
“This marks a pivotal moment for the National Parking Platform. Moving to a sector-led model ensures we can continue to scale at pace, while maintaining our core mission — to provide a simpler, more flexible parking experience for drivers and a more efficient, future-ready solution for local authorities.
The continued collaboration between government, the BPA, and service providers demonstrates a shared commitment to delivering national infrastructure that works in the public interest.”

The NPP is not a consumer-facing app. Instead, it acts as the central platform that connects approved parking service providers, enabling them to operate seamlessly across participating locations while giving drivers the freedom to choose how they pay.

With momentum building across the sector, the NPP is set to play a central role in the future of parking and wider transport integration across the UK.
