London Borough of Tower Hamlets becomes first in London to join the National Parking Platform

First London Borough Adopts the Platform

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has become the first London borough to join the National Parking Platform (NPP), marking a major step forward in simplifying parking for drivers across the capital.

From today, motorists parking in Tower Hamlets can pay using the app they already know and trust — including Appyway, RingGo, PayByPhone, Caura, Apcoa Connect, and JustPark — without needing to download anything new or create additional accounts.

The NPP is not a new parking app. It is a central platform that operates in the background, connecting multiple approved parking providers to council parking services. This gives drivers greater flexibility and choice, while creating a more consistent and user-friendly experience.

As the first borough in London to go live on the platform, Tower Hamlets is leading the way in modernising parking and supporting a more joined-up, digitally enabled transport system.

To mark the launch, Cllr. Shafi Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Environment and the Climate Emergency, joined the NPP team in Whitechapel to unveil new signage guiding residents and visitors to the simpler parking system.

Cllr. Shafi Ahmed said:
“We’re proud to be the first London borough to join the National Parking Platform, helping to make parking across Tower Hamlets simpler, smarter and fairer for our residents and visitors.
By giving drivers the freedom to use the app they already prefer, we’re removing unnecessary barriers and making everyday journeys easier. This is an important step in modernising our streets and putting people first.”

A spokesperson for the National Parking Platform said:
“Tower Hamlets becoming the first London borough to join the NPP is a significant milestone for the platform and for drivers across the capital.
This is exactly what the NPP was designed to deliver — a simpler, more flexible parking experience, where drivers can use the app they already trust.
We’re excited to work with Tower Hamlets and other London boroughs to build momentum and bring the benefits of the platform to more communities.”

The National Parking Platform has been developed to operate in the public interest, bringing together local authorities and service providers to create a more open, competitive and innovative parking ecosystem.

Tower Hamlets’ adoption signals the start of wider rollout across London, as more boroughs explore how the platform can support better outcomes for drivers and communities.
